Another Heaping Spoonful of Weirdness

Let’s Face it, We are All Freaks!

Here’s a groovy little number dedicated to all them weirdos in the world. It’s a quick little number designed for maximum discomfort.

I wrote this one at 4 a.m. after waking to a hum that lives behind my molars sometimes. It’s low and electric like a fridge that never shuts off. Don’t ask me what the title means. I know what it means. You don’t need to know what it means. It means what it sounds like when you say it too many times in a row until it stops being words.

The bassline came first like a fossil record. I built the rest of the lyrics around it like hotdog meat around a bone I found in the yard. My brain wanted me to redo it and give it a proper chorus. But we all know some things aren’t meant to be redone, they’re meant to be survived.

This song isn’t about kneeling. Well, not exactly and not in the way you think, and also exactly in the way you think. Both at once, like a door that’s open and closed depending on how far back you can twist your neck. It’s about wanting something so bad you forget the smell of your own body. It’s about the specific ache of being looked at by someone who is only pretending to look at you. I recorded the vocals lying flat on the studio floor because standing felt like lying and I wanted the opposite of a lie.

Play Freak on Your Knees loud. Play it near something breakable. Play it while you’re doing something you’ll regret. That’s the room this song was built for. That’s the only room it fits in.
